God Is Our Rescuer

Think about any show, movie, or book you’ve ever watched or read where someone was held captive and the calvary came in and saved the day.

That Is our God. He is the cavalry.

When things are looking bad. God will save the day. You can count on it. God knows exactly where you are. He will be there just in time. No need to worry. Look to God, which is where your help comes from.

Here are a just a few of the verses in the Bible that talk about God being a rescuer.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord , the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1‭-‬2 NIV

The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
Psalm 34:22 NIV

He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.
Psalm 55:18 NIV

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord , “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

God Is My Happy Place #8

The next writing prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is

“Write about one thing that truly inspires you.”

Only one thing? I get my inspiration from many places. But God is the source of all my inspiration.

I may get inspiration from a Bible verse, books, movies, music, tv, games, people, nature, etc. But God brought it to my attention.

I can see something in a paragraph or a scene in a movie/show and it’s like getting a download of information. It seems like the perfect example of a concept. It doesn’t have to be a whole book, movie, etc. It’s usually just a scene or small part of the whole.

It’s truly amazing how God works. He knows exactly how to reach each of us and how we hear from Him the best.

God has brought me down an amazing journey writing this blog and I hope it is a blessing to those of you out there reading it.

God Is My Happy Place #7

The next writing prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is the following verse:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

This is a fitting verse to start the year with.

God has a purpose for me this year. I believe it will be a year of growth. There will be change. I don’t know what that will look like, but I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.

According to this verse, He has a plan to give me hope and a future. Plans to prosper me and not to harm me. There is a blessed future for me.

Thank you, Lord for having plans for me. Thank you for preparing the way for me. You are more than amazing. I thank you for your great love. Help me to follow the plan you have for me this year and always. Thank you for always being with me and helping me. Thank you for never giving up on me. Amen.

God Is My Happy Place #6

The next writing prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is:

“We all have some really great moments, and those should be remembered. What was one of the greatest moments of your life?”

One of my favorite memories is of a time when we were in Louisiana visiting some of my husband’s family.

We took a day to spend together. Just me and my husband (Josh). We ate some amazing Italian food. We went to an art museum. We had a great time together. Simply enjoying each other’s company.

Some of my greatest memories are when we spend time together. I love to spend time with my husband. He is so fun to be around.

God has blessed me with some great experiences and some great people in my life.

Salvation and a relationship with Him are the greatest gifts God has ever given me. My husband is the next greatest gift/blessing in my life. Every day with Josh is a gift. I’m glad I get to live life with this man.

God is My Happy Place #5

The next writing prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is:

“What is the best quality that you feel you exemplify. ”

This has been a hard one to think about. It has taken me some time to write this. Every time I typed something, I deleted it. I would think I’m pretty good at this or I’m this way, yet I could look at myself and think of all the times I didn’t exemplify those things. My own worst critic I suppose.

I am dependable and reliable. Or so I’ve been told by employers.

My husband considers me to be optimistic.

But to come up with it on my own is hard.

My best answer is, if I have any good qualities, it is because of God. He made me, so I know there must be good qualities. I usually have to ask others what they are though. I don’t see them myself.

God Is My Happy Place #4

The next writing prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is:

“Life is too short to be busy all the time! If you could spend the day any way you wanted to, what would you do?”

Well, let’s see. I would not have an alarm set. I would simply wake up when I wanted to.

Then, i would read my Bible and maybe a biography after that, while drinking some hot cocoa.

Then I would cook some breakfast/lunch. You know depending on what time it was.

Then maybe I would play a Wii game with my husband. Just spending some quality time together playing Mario Party or something.

I might end the day with some coloring or writing.

Maybe going out for dinner. Or maybe ordering a pizza. Whatever sounds good to us.

Just a quiet day with no plans. No where that I have to be. No schedules. Just relaxation.

God Is My Happy Place #3

The next writing prompt from the book “God is My Happy Place” is:

“You are God’s greatest work of art, created for a wonderful purpose.”

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above–spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

Today’s prompt reminded me of the above verse, which has two parts.

The first is that we are masterfully created. He has done such an outstanding job creating us. According to Genesis, we are made in His image.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27 NIV

He took care to create each part of us.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13‭-‬14 NIV

The second part is that we have a purpose. God made plans for us. He didn’t just create us to be creating. He had a purpose for us.

Most people don’t create/design/make anything that doesn’t have a purpose. Even if that purpose is entertainment. So why would God not have a purpose for us, His creation, which He took such great care in creating?

On a side note, when I think about what God says about me, it helps me deal with depressive thinking. It helps me renew my mind.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2 NIV

Going The Wrong Way

I just watched a video where a mom was ranting about her kids always telling her she’s going the wrong way or always wanting to tell her what she should be doing and how to do it. The mom is frustrated because she knows what she is doing and is wiser than they, but they won’t listen or just enjoy the ride.

Does that sound anything like the way we treat God sometimes? We want to tell Him how we think things should be. We want to let Him know how He is messing up as if we are wiser than He is.

It should be the other way around. We should be praying to God asking what He thinks the best move is. He is all knowing. He knows exactly how things should go.

We can sit back and enjoy the ride and not worry about the destination, if we would let God be God and follow His lead. Just like the kids in the video. They could sit back and enjoy, if they weren’t telling mom how to drive and where to go.

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

God Is My Happy Place #2

The first prompt from the book “God Is My Happy Place” is:

“When do you feel the happiest?”

The first things that pop into my mind are:

When I don’t have to perform for people to like me.

When I’m being myself and that’s ok.

When I’m with my husband.

When I’m alone with God and experiencing His peace.

When I’m not worried.

When im doing things I enjoy, such as cooking, coloring, reading, etc.

When I am cognizant of who I am in Christ.

These are just a few things that I could think of, but ultimately happiness is a choice. I choose to be happy. I can choose to be happy even when doing something I don’t enjoy. Maybe I decide to do something with my husband of his choosing, but I’m not really fond of doing that. I can still choose to be happy and allow him to enjoy himself.

The opposite is also true. I choose to be miserable by dwelling on the negative. Dwelling on the negative can also cause me not to enjoy things that I normally enjoy doing.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
