My Center

Me sometime between 1991-1994

I remember when I did gymnastics back in high school. When doing my routine on the balance beam, I had to find my center and find a spot to focus on. If I didn’t have my center, I would fall off. If you have ever watched dancers do a lot of turns in a row without getting dizzy, it is because they have found their focus point & their center.

In life, God is my center. He is where my focus needs to be. Not on my past. Not on the negative things in life. Not on the scale. Not on my fears. Not on the coulda, woulda, shouldas. Not on all the distractions of life. Not all the worries.

When focused on God, He brings clarity, peace, love, joy, and so much more. God has never let me down. I have been dissapointed and let down by people, circumstances, and even myself, but God has always been there for me. I can always focus on Him without fear. I don’t have to spend my time worrying about everything, because He is taking care of those things. He has come through so often, I wonder why I worry at all.

Why do I get so distracted and worried? It’s because I allow anxiety and the negative thinking to take over and it takes my focus off God. Life not focused on Him is quite off balance. And an off balance life, brings fear, uncertainty, depression, etc.

I’m so glad that God always helps me refocus. When I realize I have gotten off track, I need only ask and He will help me. Just like on the balance beam, when I fell off, I had to get back on and try again. And so in life, I must get back up and try again with God as my center and my help.

‘But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. ‘ Matthew 6:33 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/MAT.6.33 AMP

‘Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. ‘ Matthew 14:25-32 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.14.25-32 NIV
