The next writing prompt in “God Is My Happy Place” is
“A life of victory isn’t a life without disappointment or hard work.”
Let’s break this down into three sections.
‘The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But deliverance and victory belong to the Lord .’ Proverbs 21:31 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/PRO.21.31 AMP
‘He said, “Listen carefully, all [you people of] Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: ‘Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. ‘ 2 Chronicles 20:15 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/2CH.20.15 AMP
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. Romans 8:37 AMP https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/ROM.8.37.AMP
The Battle and the victory belong to the Lord. All the victory in my journey comes from Him. I can do nothing in my own power. I need His power to overcome and live the way He wants me to live. I need Him to deal with all the disappointments and hard work. He has never let me down and He’s not going to start letting me down now. In fact, He already won the victory on the cross over everything that I would ever deal with.
‘so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him]. ‘ Matthew 5:45 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/MAT.5.45 AMP
I don’t always get what I want or expect. Sometimes I have experienced dissapointments and setbacks. I have had a few weeks where I didn’t lose weight, even though I was following my boundaries. I’ve even had a week or two where I gained a pound back. I don’t like disappointments, but they are part of life for everyone. Though the setbacks are usually a set up for moving forward.
In fact, this week, I stepped on the scale and it read the same that it read last week. I was disappointed. I had expected to lose a pound or two. It would be nice, if all goals were just reached without pause or setbacks. But that usually isn’t how the journey goes. There are usually ups and downs. I’m believing that next week will be a better weigh in and I will be closer to God as a result of dealing with the disappointment.
- Hard Work
‘But as for you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.” ‘ 2 Chronicles 15:7 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/2CH.15.7 AMP
I think the hardest part, at least for me, is in fighting for my thought life. Trying to change the lies I have been believing for years into the truth, because the lies seem to keep coming back. For example, when I have the dissapointments mentioned above, I take them to God and work on it with Him. I read His Word to find out the truth of the matter and give Him praise. This is me changing my focus to God, instead of the disappointment/issue. In this instance, I turned it into gratefulness. I thanked Him for not gaining weight. I thanked Him that I was able to put on socks without issues. Before the weight loss, that was difficult for me to do. I do have food boundaries to follow and that is also difficult at times, but working on my thought life has been more difficult. I wish the lies would just go away and stay away, but God is with me to help me do the work. I need Him everyday. I can’t do it without Him. I believe that if I don’t give up and I keep going to God, I will be rewarded. The biggest and best reward is more of Jesus and a closer relationship with Him. I also believe that I will continue to lose weight and become healthier. This is only a minor pause.
