The next writing prompt in “God Is My Happy Place” is
“What is one of the most satisfying jobs you have done?”
My current job is satisfying, because I get to help people get the financial help they need to afford their insurance plan and educate them on their options. God opened this door for me after we moved here a little over 3 yrs ago and I have been enjoying it ever since.
Though I suppose maybe a better question might be, what makes a job satisfying. To me it is knowing I did it right. If I am doing a job and can’t seem to do it right or can’t wrap my mind around what I’m supposed to be doing, I am not satisfied with it. And I’m more frustrated than satisfied. Understanding my job & the correct way to do it is important. What I currently do, I know it inside and out and that is part of the satisfaction.
Liking the work itself is important. My current job, I’m basically organizing things in a members account and reaching out to the member or their representative to aid them in getting their account corrected. I’m not the biggest fan of talking on the phone, but I like the organizing & most of the people I talk to are nice.
I also need to know once in a while that I did a good job. I don’t need it all the time and I don’t need a bunch of awards, but it is nice to know that i’m on the right track and doing things right. My current supervisors/managers are good at this. They let me know that they appreciate me and my work.
One other thing is knowing a job is done and I don’t have to worry about it anymore. It is so satisfying to mark it off the to-do list. It’s almost like it is a weight that has been lifted off my shoulders. It always feels good to finish a task & even to clock out for the day.
