Change

Change is much like a board game. Sometimes you go forward one space. Sometimes you go forward a lot of spaces. Sometimes you may go back a few spaces. But even when we have to go back a few, it is always the goal to continue in a forward motion trying to reach the goal or the last space on the board.

Sometimes change is drastic and sometimes it’s subtle. With weight, sometimes, I lose 5 pounds a week. Other times, I lose less than a pound a week. But I’m still losing weight. Every loss is a good loss. Even a little change is a step in the right direction. On the occassion that I gain a pound, which is the equivalent of taking a step back, it can be a learning experience. It can also be preparation for a bigger step forward next week.

Change is a journey. It can be an instant change, but more often it is a process. A process of becoming closer to God. An opportunity for more of Him and less of me. Less reliance on myself or the things of this world.

‘He must increase [in prominence], but I must decrease. ‘ John 3:30 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/JHN.3.30 AMP

Weight loss is one of those changes that is a journey. I’m not going to wake up tomorrow 100 pounds lighter. It takes working the process day after day. Moment after moment. I know that God could do it in an instant, but I believe that God wants me to learn a lot during the process.

Jesus is my Victory! It is not my effort, though my obedience is part of the process. However it is Him that will cause me to lose weight. I must trust Him and that He will do it.

And even if He doesn’t, I will still trust and believe in Him.

If I get discouraged at every setback or tiny little step forward, I am dwelling too much in the past. Continuing to look forward is imperative to moving forward. I must continue to look to God.

‘Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ‘ Philippians 3:13-14 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/PHP.3.13-14 AMP
