The next writing prompt in “God Is My Happy Place” is

“Live in such a way that if someone spoke badly of you, no one would believe it.”

This is the verse that comes to mind as I think about this prompt.

If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Romans 12:18 AMP https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/ROM.12.18.AMP

This verse is right between two verses that tell us not to take revenge. I have included the verse with its surrounding verses.

‘Never repay anyone evil for evil. Take thought for what is right and gracious and proper in the sight of everyone. If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “Vengeance is Mine , I will repay ,” says the Lord. ‘ Romans 12:17-19 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/ROM.12.17-19 AMP

Now, I’m not saying that we should let people walk all over us, but as the surrounding verses say, we also shouldn’t seek revenge. We may need to set up boundaries, but vengeance belongs to the Lord.

Keeping peace, I believe, is about forgiveness/grace. Sometimes we talk to the person about it, but other times we don’t. We need to pray & let God lead us to which is the right way to handle each situation with wisdom.

Another important aspect of this verse, is that “as far as it depends on you”. Not everyone accepts or responds to us favorably. Not everyone will agree with us, no matter what we do/say. So, all we can do is our best and live as God wants us to. Then we have done our part. God will take care of the rest.
