My next writing prompt in “God is My Happy Place” is the following verse.
‘ “Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me. ‘ John 14:1 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/JHN.14.1 AMP
Another verse that comes to mind when reading this verse is:
‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us, [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. ‘ Hebrews 12:1-2 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/HEB.12.1-2 AMP
Hebrews talks about taking off unnecessary weight & sin that holds us down and to focus on Jesus, who is the Author & Perfecter of faith. John, to me, seems to be saying to set aside fear and in turn to focus on our belief and trust in God.
Fear & sin are both things that take our eyes or our focus off of God & we have to lay aside those and other distractions in order to move forward. Now does that mean we ignore our emotions & don’t deal with them. I don’t believe so. There are some things that if they are not dealt with will fester. But the way to deal with them is our focus on God. I can’t deal with the emotions/sin/trials in this life alone. I need God to help me do that.
‘ Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. ‘ Romans 12:1-2 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/ROM.12.1-2 AMP
Romans talks about renewing our mind. This we do by replacing the lies with the truth (God’s Word).
For example, a lot of the negative emotions I have are based on lies that I have believed. If I replace them with the truth of God’s Word & continue focusing on the truth, the negative emotions go away. Maybe not instantly, but if I continue by not letting go of the truth, then God’s truth will become what I believe instead of the lies.
One such lie I have believed is that I will never lose the weight, because I have failed in the past & have been a disappointment to others.
These lies have caused me to just give up & overeat whatever I want, whenever I want. Which in turn has caused me to gain a ton of weight.
The truth to that is that I can’t do it on my own. But that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. My past does not dictate my future, God has a plan for me. What others think of me isn’t important. Pleasing God is more important than pleasing people. Though I have probably not disappointed others as much as I think I have.
‘I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.] ‘ Philippians 4:13 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/PHP.4.13 AMP
‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord , ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. ‘ Jeremiah 29:11 https://my.bible.com/bible/1588/JER.29.11 AMP
‘Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. ‘ II Corinthians 5:9 https://my.bible.com/bible/114/2CO.5.9 NKJV
God has given me a fresh start. I have repented of my attitudes around food & given it over to Him. I’m learning to rely on Him more and more as things come up. Food is no longer where I go to deal with my emotions/trials. God is. He is my refuge. He is my healer. He is my everything.
