You Are Not Alone

I saw the new Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker. It was amazing. I was so excited that I got to see it. It did not disappoint. There was only one thing I was upset about, but I don’t want to write about it yet, in case there are people who still haven’t seen it. I also don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone.

What I do want to write about now, is a line in the movie. I think someone else also said something similar, but maybe this line stood out to me so much that I thought I heard it more than once. Poe Dameron said “The First Order wins by making us think we’re alone. We’re not.”

For those of you who aren’t Star Wars fans, the First Order is the dark side.

When we feel like we are alone and no one is coming to help, we tend to give up and/or do the wrong thing. Like in a battle, divide and conquer. If the enemy can get you alone, he can most likely defeat you. If he can make you think he holds all the cards, then he can make you feel defeated. We must realize that we are not alone. God is always with us. There are also more people around us that are with us than we realize, we just have to reach out.

‘“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
‘And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord , so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” ‘ 2 Kings 6:16-17 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/2KI.6.16-17

‘“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said. ‘ 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/2CH.32.7-8

I recommend reading both of the stories the above scriptures come from. They are both great illustrations of how much more power is with us than with our enemy. And following is from the new testament.

‘You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. ‘ 1 John 4:4 https://my.bible.com/bible/111/1JN.4.4

It’s not always easy to let people in or reach out for help when needed. As a result, we feel defeated. We know we need each other, but we don’t want to intrude or be a bother. We don’t want to appear weak or that we don’t have it all together, when the truth is that no one has it all together. We are all trying our best to make it in this world. God made us to need each other and most of all He created us to need Him.

There are times I have given up and/or haven’t done the right thing, because I felt I was the only one. There have also been times when I have done the right thing anyway, but it wasn’t easy. When we realize that we’re not alone in doing the right thing, we make better choices. Especially when we realize that God is with us. He is where our strength comes from.

One more point in this, is that it is in what the enemy can convince you of. So we need to know what the truth is, by spending time in the Word of God, memorizing and meditating on it. That way we know that we know what the truth is and the enemy can’t convince us to believe lies.

There are so many songs that I can think of about this topic, but this is the one that feels like it goes here.

I Am Not Alone by Kari Jobe (I own no rights to this song/video)
